Health care navigation (HCN) is a community-based service designed to help people navigate the complex system of medical services and insurance coverage. HCN provides free, confidential information about local hospitals, physicians, clinics, dentists, pharmacies, and other health care providers. HCN was created by the National Partnership for Women & Families (NPWF) in partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF).
How does HCN work?
HCN works by connecting women and men who need assistance navigating the health care system with trusted community partners who provide direct access to high-quality, affordable healthcare. These trusted partners are called navigators. Navigators are trained to help patients find the right provider at the right time and answer questions about their options and costs.
HCN is a non-profit organization founded in 1995 by Dr. George Tiller, M.D., who was murdered while performing abortions at his Wichita, Kansas clinic in 2009. Since then, HCN has grown to become a national resource for people seeking access to high-quality reproductive healthcare services.
Who uses HCN?
Women and men across the nation use HCN to connect with trusted community partners who offer free, confidential information about health care providers. In addition, HCN helps women and men understand their rights under the law and how they can protect themselves from discrimination.
HCN’s mission is to provide accurate, unbiased information about abortion care options, including medical abortion (MA) and medication abortion (MAs). We do not promote or endorse any particular provider or procedure. Our goal is to help patients find the best option for them.
Where do I find HCN?
HCN is offered in all 50 states and Washington D.C. To find out if HCN is available in your area, visit https://www.edenhealth.com/solutions/healthcare-navigation.
Why should I use HCN?
HCNs are trained to help you get connected with the right provider at the best price. You may not have to pay anything upfront, and you may qualify for financial assistance.
HCN does not charge any fees to providers or customers. We want to ensure our users receive the best service possible. By connecting you with the right provider, we’re able to save you money while still getting you the best service at the lowest cost.
